Suryani's Body, 2020“According to sharia laws in Malaysia, a trans* person born in a Muslim family belongs to prison. This is our faith,” said Suryani. She covered up as Hindu for years, fled Malaysia, and after a four-year asylum process in Denmark ended up seeking asylum again in Germany.

Self-Portrait With Julie's Makeup, 2019I made this self-portrait after a makeup workshop in the dorm reserved for trans and queer refugees and asylum seekers at risk. One of the friends I got to know through photographing her saw my raw craft and decided to paint me. We came to her kitchen during sunset. Her shadow is now present in the picture, both literally and metaphorically.
